We live in an era of rapid convenience. Almost any physical product can be ordered with a single click, mass-produced in automated factories, and shipped across the globe in a matter of days. While this is highly efficient for household goods, it has left our lives feeling slightly detached from real craftsmanship, individuality, and slow-made art.
When it comes to selecting your wedding band—a ring meant to sit on your finger every single day for the rest of your life—convenience shouldn't be the goal.

At Ring & Grove, we handcraft a dedicated collection of wood-only and wood-inlay bands in our Bobcaygeon, Ontario workshop. In this guide, we’ll explore what makes handcrafted rings so special, why artisan quality is technically superior to mass production, and showcase our top-rated designs.
Many cheap wood rings sold online are mass-produced in overseas factories, milled out of pre-cast blanks on computer-controlled lathes. While cheap, this manufacturing shortcut has major technical flaws:
Mass-produced factories carve wood rings directly out of a flat block of timber. Wood is an organic material made of long fibers running in a single direction (the grain). Carving a ring cuts directly across these fibers, leaving two weak "cross-grain" zones. If you drop a carved wood ring, squeeze your hand, or if the wood naturally expands with moisture, the ring will easily crack and snap along those natural fault lines.
At Ring & Grove, our artisans reject carving entirely. We handcraft every ring to order using the specialized bentwood technique: 1. We shave paper-thin, flexible ribbons of wood veneer. 2. We wrap these ribbons tightly around a custom mandrel multiple times, ensuring the wood grain runs in a continuous circle around your finger. 3. We bond the overlapping layers under high pressure using a medical-grade, waterproof adhesive.
Because the grain wraps continuously around your finger, there is no cross-grain or weak point. This gives our rings incredible tensile strength and flexibility. They can absorb impacts, bend slightly under pressure, and will never shatter during normal daily wear.
Selecting an artisan studio like Ring & Grove over a mass-market retailer offers three key benefits:
100% Unique Character: No two trees share the same growth patterns, colors, or textures. When you choose a handcrafted wood ring, your ring is a literal one-of-one work of art. Custom Metal & Material Inlays: Our artisans can embed spectacular, organic materials directly into the wood canvas, including reclaimed whiskey barrel oak, ancient 5,000-year-old bog oak, real guitar strings, shimmering German glass, copper, silver, and authentic woolly mammoth tusk. Support for Real Artisans: Your purchase directly supports a small team of skilled woodworkers in Bobcaygeon, Ontario, keeping the tradition of handcraft alive in Canada.
Our designs range from $299 to $549 CAD, proving that custom handcrafted luxury can still be highly affordable.
The Materials: Rich dark Santos Rosewood paired side-by-side with cool-toned Canadian Grey Maple, divided by dual parallel copper inlays. Why It’s a Masterpiece: "The King" represents the peak of our dual-wood laminating capability. It is clean, contemporary, and incredibly sophisticated, offering a highly stylized geometric contrast.
The Materials: Pale, highly figured Canadian Birdseye Maple with an actual, raw bronze guitar string embedded in the center. Why It’s a Masterpiece: This is a Ring & Grove exclusive design. The golden-bronze guitar string catches the light beautifully and is a perfect daily symbol for guitarists, songwriters, and music lovers.
The Materials: Deep, midnight-black African Ebony with a centered inlay of sparkling German Glass. Why It’s a Masterpiece: It delivers a diamond-like shimmer, but because the glass is inlaid completely flush with the surface of the wood, the ring remains 100% snag-free and glove-safe.
Because wood-only rings cannot be resized like metal bands, getting an accurate size is highly important.
When you place an order with us, we highly recommend selecting our "Sizing Kit First" option. We will ship custom plastic sizing bands to your door first so you can find your perfect "comfort fit" size before we handcraft your ring. Every single Ring & Grove ring is backed by our standard workshop warranty, giving you complete peace of mind.
Your wedding ring shouldn't look like everyone else's. In 2026, celebrate your commitment with a piece that carries real history, organic beauty, and unmatched artisanal craftsmanship.
