Best Wedding Rings for Musicians: Why Guitarists are Swapping Metal for Wood

Best Wedding Rings for Musicians: Why Guitarists are Swapping Metal for Wood

Guide · 2026-06-03 · 5 min read

Ask any professional guitarist, bassist, or acoustic musician about wearing a traditional metal wedding ring on stage, and you'll get the same grimace. Traditional gold, platinum, and tungsten bands have a major structural flaw when it comes to musical performance: they scratch neck finishes, clack loudly against fretboards, and can severely scrape delicate acoustic woods during strumming.

For musicians, their hands are their livelihoods, and their instruments are highly valued extensions of their craft. Wearing a heavy metal band is a constant hazard. If a ring clacks against a neck or gets caught in a string, it ruins the take—and can permanently damage a vintage instrument's finish.

But the real secret is the sound. Wood rings make zero clacking noise. When sliding up and down the neck of an acoustic guitar, the wood of the ring glides silently against the wood of the neck, maintaining pristine audio quality whether in a studio session or on a live mic.

At Ring + Grove, we take this connection further with our specialized Guitar String Inlay Rings. Handcrafted in our Bobcaygeon workshop, we inlay an authentic steel guitar G-string directly into dense hardwoods like Santos Rosewood and Ebony. The G-string is sealed securely under our CA glue waterproof protective clearcoat (the hardest finish available at this moment), creating a stunning, low-profile metallic line that tells a literal story of music and craftsmanship.

Speaking of G-strings, we have to share a little workshop secret. Once, we ordered 300 steel guitar G-strings in bulk for our custom inlay orders. When the local music shop owner handed over the massive box, they looked at us with a very strange, bewildered expression, probably wondering what kind of wild business we were running here in Bobcaygeon, haha! Rest assured, we use them strictly for our rings.

We even offer a custom option where you can mail us a used G-string from your first guitar, a memorable gig, or a passed-down instrument, and we will build it directly into your ring. It's a way to keep your music, and your history, wrapped around your finger forever.
